So far this year, over 3,440 households were served during Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off events at the Environmental Collection Center. Of these, 241 were households from Cedar Hill and another 110 from other outside communities that partner with the City of Mansfield. That leaves 3,111 Mansfield households that have participated, with an average of 287 each month. Way to go Mansfield residents!
The electronics, paint, oil, and tires that are routed through the ECC go on to be recycled or reused. Batteries are diverted from trash pick up and the materials recovery facility, protecting our sanitation workers from possible fires. Every time materials are brought to the ECC, valuable space in the landfill is saved and natural resources are reused. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), recycling hazardous waste can mean less air, water and soil pollution because fewer raw materials need to be extracted, refined, transported and processed.
So what are you waiting for? Next time you clean out your garage, storage shed or closet, bring old electronics, used oil, paint, cleaning products and tires to the ECC, and join the thousands of residents who are helping keep Mansfield beautiful
